We Love Our Local Farmers!
Grounded in the community and connected to the land, these hard-working BC families wake up early every morning, season after season, to nurture their orchards, fields and pastures, their barns and greenhouses to bring Nature’s Fare customers the most delicious, ethical and sustainable products possible. We invite you to support them too by buying local, and enjoying their fresh, delicious fare.
The best part of forging strong bonds with our local farmers is that we learn where our food is coming from and that it is grown with love
Our Farmers
Amazia Farms
For Amazia Farms, the key to food security and flavourful, nutritious food is proximity. And as production costs continue to soar due to the cost of fuel and seeds become more difficult to source, Amazia Farms plans to continue their labour of love.
Sproule & Daughters Farm
Sproule & Daughters grows a wide variety of stone fruits, including cherries, plums, nectarines, grapes and pears—but the farm’s focus is on producing delicious peaches. They even supply frozen peaches to Nature’s Fare Markets’ Bistro and commissary. With a business relationship that spans decades, the Sproules say they’re forever grateful to be a part of the Nature’s Fare family.
Roots & Greens Farm
A long-time producer for Nature’s Fare Markets, Roots & Greens grows a wide variety of fruits and vegetables in their Grindrod fields. In 2021 alone, Roots & Greens produced more than 40 different certified organic fruits, vegetables and herbs for Nature’s Fare. For a small family farm that cultivates a smaller quantity of a wide variety of quality produce, Roots & Greens Farm says their relationship with Nature’s Fare is invaluable.
West Enderby Farms
Throughout fall and winter, Elaine and Paddy bring us gorgeous organic, nonGMO, heirloom carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and beets for our customers. All are grown in the nutrient-rich soil on their 40-acre bio-dynamic farm, a mixture of cultivated and wetlands, and wildlife. They also deliver sweet jumbo carrots for the chefs in our Nature’s Fare Commissary who make tasty, healthy meals to eat in store, or to take home.
Bite Me Organics
Nestled against the banks of the Similkameen River, George and Haiqin Manz’s bio-intensive, 40 acre-organic farm produces delectable beets, carrots, leeks, onions, shallots, winter squash, cabbage, lettuce and parsnips. They are passionate about family, their land, connecting people with the food they eat – and the farming heritage they continue, on both sides of the family. Passion, George says, you can taste.
Two EEs Organic Produce
Family-owned and -operated by the multi-generational Schoen family since 1960, Two EEs 25-acre organic farm nurtures a wide variety of certified organic, non GMO, non-irradiated veggies and herbs – from beets to bok choy, cabbage to collards, daikon to dandelion greens, kale to kohlrabi – and so much more. Their grounded-in-science practices, embrace everything their family values, and a healthy, balanced and harmonious ecosystem.
Grown Here
Run by ‘a bunch of farmer chicks who are crazy passionate about growing food and reconnecting people with their food, with nature & with each other”, the 50-acre Athena Organic Farm, and 6000 sq. ft. greenhouse supply fresh, certified organic micro-green salad blends, carrots, beets, onions, leeks and squash for Nature’s Fare Markets. These pampered plants listen to music while they grow in rich fertile soil, and are “infused with love”.
Lina’s Garden
As the sun rises above the pine and sagebrush-dotted hills of the Similkameen, Art and Lina Nugteren awake early to tend the organic fields of Lina’s Garden. After meeting in Guatemala and marrying in 1989, Art and Lina started planting seeds and purchased their first parcel of land in 1997. Starting with only Art, Lina and a few acres of winter squash, Lina’s Garden has grown to welcome the second generation of Nugteren farmers who produce everything from banana fingerling potatoes, peas, coloured cauliflower and cabbage to broccoli, beans, tomatoes and peppers.
Backcountry Blooms
Backcountry Blooms is all about breathing life into your space with fresh, local and seasonal flowers. Located on the edge of the Monashee Mountains in Lumby, BC, Backcountry Farms brings their beautiful bouquets to Natures’ Fare Markets so you can bring the colourful outdoors inside. As the weather cools and the flowers no longer bloom, co-owners Amie and Molly create stunning seasonal succulent pumpkin centerpieces and wreaths for your fall decorating needs.
Friesen Farm
For Friesen Farm, it’s all about growing good healthy food while respecting the soil. The small family-owned and operated organic farm in Aldergrove has roots going back to 1985. With an assortment of salad greens and vegetable varieties, the Friesens are hard at work during the seeding and transplanting season. And then comes the field work. But for Friesen Farm, it’s a labour of love and they approach every day ready to supply their community with fresh, nutritious food.
Shuswap Organics
Owen and Emily left the bright lights of Vancouver behind for the sunshine and greenery of Enderby with a goal in mind: start farming to bring people fresh and delicious organic vegetables and preserves. Today, Shuswap Organics is a first-generation, family-owned and certified organic mixed vegetable farm situated on the cusp of the North Okanagan and Shuswap. Along their journey from offices to fields, Owen and Emily started making jams and pickles to preserve the seasons’ bounty. And, whether fresh or pickled, you can taste their care for quality in every bite of Shuswap Organics produce.
Hazelmere Organics
Hazelmere Organics has spent the past 35 years growing real, natural food. Nestled in the Hazelmere Valley in South Surrey, Hazelmere Organic Farm brings a love of fresh and local organic fruits and vegetables to the Natures’ Fare Markets table. As pioneers of Vancouver’s farm to table movement, Hazelmere Organic Farm has supplied some of the province’s top restaurants with high quality produce. But, for owner Naty King, the farm is more than just a business: it’s a way to make a difference in her community.
Hawthorn Farm Studio
Whether it’s through their small-scale flower farm or hand-crafted pottery stoneware, Amy and Caleb of Hawthorn Farm Studio aim to inspire a healthy and thriving community in BC’s Okanagan Valley. Amy planted the seeds of Hawthorn Farm Studio in 2014 with the dream of bringing the simple and sustainable into everyday life. With a current focus on sharing the natural beauty of the Okanagan through sustainable local botanicals, Caleb plans to welcome a regenerative orchard, tree nut allotment and sustainably-managed woodlot to Hawthorn Farm Studio.
